Life Is A Choice Youth Program

  • Week 1:

    Social Skills

    Provides training on standard social skills such as communication skills, making friends and touches on anger management and conflict resolution, which is discussed further in a separate lesson. This unit relies on practicing the skills to help a person become more socially competent.


  • Week 2:

    Understanding Relationships

    Teens learn the importance of building and maintaining healthy relationships, relationships with family members and girl/boyfriends.


  • Week 3:

    Anger Management

    Youth explore their emotions and how to avoid violence and potentially dangerous situations.


  • Week 4:

    Adapting to Change/Resiliency

    Teens learn what it means to be resilient and overcome obstacles faced in daily life by learning to adapt to change.


  • Week 5:

    Decision Making.

    Youth focus on decision making skills by defining a problem and by developing a solution to that problem.


  • Week 6:

    Money Management

    Youths learn money management basics such as budgeting, saving and independent living.


  • Week 7:

    Career Exploration

    Youths work together in small groups using newsprint to brainstorm what they want to be when they grow up and what it takes to get there. Youth will build a 1-2 years, 3 and 5 year life plan.


  • Week 8:

    Health and Fitness

    Youths will learn key components and benefits that will help increase physical activity that must be maintained in order to be physically fit and prevent increasing health conditions. Youth will engage in activities that help them to be more physically active.
